About Me

Solsbury View. Little Solsbury Hill greets me every morning I pull back the curtains – unless we are both in the cloud. Bath racecourse is just up the road and is said to be the highest racecourse in the UK. The Roman/Georgian wonders of the City of Bath are twenty minutes walk down the hill (though the woods via Jacob’s ladder No. 2).

The posts here will cover both areas – Bath and horse racing – sometimes horse racing at Bath.

I worked as Phil Bull’s timefigures assistant at Timeform in Halifax in 1972-3. It was interesting at times – especially being driven to Doncaster races by Barry Hills in Phil Bull’s jag.

I moved on – a spell at Plessey’s Allen Clark Research Centre (Towcester) 1973-5, followed by being a Betting Shop manager for Ladbrokes in Googe Street, London, 1975-6. Another job filled the time waiting for..

Finally decided to train to teach in Further Education: 1977-8. Taught in two FE Colleges 1978-1987. Moved into Higher Education 1987-2009, teaching ‘I.T’.

Moved out of Higher Education in 2009 when retirement was offered (as the only option).

So now training to be a member of the Mayor of Bath’s Corps of Honorary Guides. Designing a website based on Bath’s Heritage plaques. And other things…
